After my positive attitude on Tuesday towards entering round 3 of my chemo treatment, yesterday noon was a huge disillusionment. Just about everything that could take away the joy of life, dumped itself on me: shortly after the chemo and a bag of blood to give me a boost, the cold tremors came, accompanied by high fever, bloated belly, shortness of breath and troublingly low blood pressure. Test upon test all through today and a host of doctors, nurses and residents visiting my bed led to a lot of concern and speculation: kidney insufficiency, moisture in the lungs, pneumonia, bacterial infection. More blood-work, frequent monitoring and measuring every drop of pee to make sure my kidneys aren’t failing.
In the course of the afternoon symptoms became bearable, I could enjoy my meals. At the last measurement around 10 pm blood pressure had risen. Staff and patient expect a good night’s rest.
Let’s see what the morrow bringeth … never a dull moment, was a frequently heard saying in my childhood years.
